Azerbaijan announces shelling attack on its village on border with Armenia

The positions of the Azerbaijani troops in a village on the border with Armenia and in the Karabakh conflict zone were shelled 25 times within 24 hours, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan reports today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the morning on April 26, Azerbaijan reported about 23 shelling attacks on the positions of its troops.

"Units of the Armenian armed forces used large-calibre machine guns and 25 times violated the ceasefire regime in various directions of the front within 24 hours," the Azerbaijani MoD reports on its website today. The Azerbaijan's positions in the village of Agbulag in the Tovuz District were shelled, the Azerbaijani MoD reported.

The fire came both from the direction of Armenia and from the areas considered by Azerbaijan as its occupied territories, the Azerbaijani MoD reports.

As at 8:40 a.m. Moscow time on today, the Ministries of Defence of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh have not yet posted on their official websites any comments on the statement released by the Azerbaijani MoD.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties to the conflict agreed on a ceasefire, but the confrontation did not stop. In 2019, Azerbaijan registered a period of almost complete ceasefire on the front, which lasted about a month, and Nagorno-Karabakh announced the lowest number of shelling attacks on its positions within 10 years.
