SC demands from KBSU documents on legality of Khokonov's dismissal

The Supreme Court (SC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has begun considering the lawsuit lodged by Murat Khokonov, Professor of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University (KBSU), concerning his illegal dismissal. The SC has demanded from KBSU bosses the documents confirming the legality of professor's dismissal.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 4, 2024, it became known that the Nalchik City Court, which had considered Professor Murat Khokonov's lawsuit against his illegal dismissal from the KBSU, transferred the materials to the KBR's SC due to the fact that the case raises the issue of state secrets. Khokonov himself then lined his dismissal with his criticism of the policies of the university top management.

In October 2023, activists appealed to Kazbek Kokov, the head of the KBR, in connection with the dismissal of Professor Murat Khokonov from the KBSU.

The KBR's SC raised the issue of the powers of the person who signed the order to dismiss Khokonov, Kazbek Mambetov, an advocate, has noted.

Besides, the SC has requested documents about whether the KBSU offered Khokonov another position from among the available vacancies.

Murat Khokonov is the family's sole breadwinner; and he remains jobless for eight months. After his voyage to Turkey for the wedding of his friend's daughter, he was fired from the KBSU "for terminating access to state secrets."
