Deputies of the Chechen Parliament have decided to send to the federal authorities the appeals to seek to assess the statements made by Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the leader of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), who on October 24 called to separate Northern Caucasus from Russia and to limit the birth rate there.

We need a law on social protection of terror act victims, say participants of Dubrovka commemoration
On October 26, eleven years after the terror act in Dubrovka Theatrical Centre, relatives of those who perished, liberated hostages and negotiators with terrorists met again in Melnikov Street in Moscow to commemorate the dead and recollect the events of three days in October 2002. Speakers at the commemoration ceremony called on the State Duma MPs to consider and adopt the law on the status of terror act victims.

A batch of artillery and anti-aircraft shells has been found by the police in the Oktiabrsky District of the Chechen capital. Presumably, the ammunition was left in Grozny during the time of active warfare in late 1990s-early 2000s.

Bailiffs carry out massive evictions of refugees from Grozny and internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the Prigorodny District, who lived at the temporary accommodation centre (TAC) "Promzhilbaza", located in the Ingush town of Karabulak. According to local residents, the promises of the authorities to allocate funds to rent housing for the TAC residents remain unfulfilled.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg has decided that Russian authorities had violated the rights of citizens of Chechnya in the case of disappearances and deaths of their relatives in 2001-2004. Seven applicants were awarded compensations in the sum of 300,000 euros, says the decision of the ECtHR released today.

The terror act in Volgograd on October 21 was committed in the 14th anniversary of the events in Grozny, when, according to witnesses and human rights defenders, the Grozny marketplace, the maternity hospital and one of the city mosques were attacked by missiles. So far, the armed underground has not taken responsibility for the explosion in Volgograd.

The verdict against five persons of the Grozny District of Chechnya, who were accused of trying to undermine the train set of cars with petroleum products and who were sentenced in this June by the Chechen court to long terms of imprisonment, has been upheld by the Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation.
