During the week of August 11-17, 2014, the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus claimed at least one human life; no information about wounded people was reported. The casualty is a civilian Rasul Gamzatov – Deputy Mufti of North Ossetia. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

On August 17, the fifth annual North-Caucasian Youth Forum "Mashuk-2014", held in Pyatigorsk during two weeks, was closed. The closing ceremony was held at the evening of August 16.

Combatants from Chechnya, who are fighting on the side of the self-proclaimed Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics, have asked leaders of the antiterrorist operation (ATO) in Ukraine to provide them with the possibility to leave the combat zone, the ATO press centre reports.

In the course of special operations conducted in Northern Caucasus this year, law enforcers have eliminated 158 active militants, including 25 militants' leaders. This was reported by Alexander Bortnikov, the Chairman of the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC).

On August 8, the city of Grozny held a roundtable "Chechnya's Experience as Tool to Stop Bloodshed in Ukraine", organized by the "Objective" News Agency jointly with the "United Caucasian Forum" and with the support of the Public Chamber of Chechnya. The event was attended by rights defenders and public figures from Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetia and North Ossetia.

Today is exactly 15 years after the launch of an armed aggression against Dagestan undertaken on August 7, 1999, when militants – Wahhabis – invaded Dagestan from Chechnya. Today, Dagestan is commemorating the victims of those tragic events. The MPs of the Russian State Duma have promised in the near future to address the issue of the status of Dagestani militias, who participated in the warfare in Dagestan in 1999.
