During consideration of his appeal in the Supreme Court of Russia Aslan Cherkesov earlier acknowledged guilty of murder of football fan Yegor Sviridov asked the court to avoid the sentence and refer the case to a new consideration. Representatives of the public ecological organization "Solnechny Patrul" (Solar Patrol) brought to the Essentuki office of Alexander Khloponin, the Plenipotentiary Envoy of the President to the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), an open letter of residents of the region named Kavkazskie Mineralnye Vody (Caucasian Mineral Waters) demanding to stop cutting trees on Mount Mashuk. The similar letters were sent to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

Maikop began preparations for the Congress of the Circassian nation of the Republic of Adygea. On January 22, the decision to convene the Congress was adopted at the extraordinary meeting of the Board of the Public Movement "Adyge-Khase Circassian Parliament" of the Republic of Adygea.
