In Rostov-on-Don, the court found Azamat Kalov guilty of plotting a terror act in Cherkessk, swearing allegiance to the leader of the “Islamic State” (IS, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”), and justifying terrorism. Azamat Kalov was sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony and a fine of 250,000 roubles, the press service for the Southern District Military Court reports today.

Natives of Dagestan told advocates new details of torture in the Kalmyk colony and stated that they and other Muslims were not allowed to pray and read the Koran. Vladimir Osechkin, the head of the "Gulagu.net" project, has called on Ramzan Kadyrov, who positions himself as a defender of Muslims, to intervene in the situation.

In the Kalmyk colony, where a FSIN (Russian Federal Penitentiary Service) employee was killed, the Muslims' rights are respected, and the convicts voiced only everyday complaints, the Deputy Mufti of Kalmykia has stated following his visit to the colony. However, commentators of Dagestani Telegram channels have objected stating, if there had been no torture and bans on praying, there would have been no murder.

Amina Gerikhanova, a native of Chechnya, who was detained at the Romanian border, will not be able to leave the country after being released from custody, since the issue of her extradition to Russia has not been resolved, the "Vayfond" human rights association has stated. Today, the body of Leonid Gutrits, the former head of the Gulkevichi District, was found near the building of the local prosecutor’s office, and the media reported that the official left a suicide note. Lawsuits have been going on against the official for several years in a case on fraud and a case on the death of a child in a water park, local advocate Sergey Zemtsov reports.

Anar Aliev, an activist who came from Germany to visit his sick father, was arrested in Azerbaijan on charges of large-scale drug dealing; and his wife was banned from leaving the country. She said that Anar had confessed under pressure.
