Nalchik native sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment in a case on terrorism

In Rostov-on-Don, the court found Azamat Kalov guilty of plotting a terror act in Cherkessk, swearing allegiance to the leader of the “Islamic State” (IS, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”), and justifying terrorism. Azamat Kalov was sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony and a fine of 250,000 roubles, the press service for the Southern District Military Court reports today.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on October 1, 2021, in Cherkessk, FSB officers detained a 20-year-old resident of the neighbouring republic, Kabardino-Balkaria. According to the FSB, the detainee was plotting a terror act against law enforcers in the city and was acting on the instructions of the militants of the “Islamic State”, an international terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court.

The Southern District Military Court considered the case against Azamat Kalov and sentenced him to 16 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony, with first 3.5 years to be spent in prison, as well as a fine of 250,000 roubles, the press service for the Southern District Military Court reported.

Azamat Kalov, a 20-year-old native of Nalchik, is on the list of terrorists and extremists compiled by the “Rosfinmonitoring” (the Russian Federal Service for Financial Monitoring), follows from the data posted on the Southern District Military Court’s website.
