RWB condemns Azerbaijani authorities for persecuting journalists
Elchin Ismailly has joined a list of journalists arrested in Azerbaijan "on trumped-up charges," says the statement of the international organization "Reporters Without Borders" (RWB). A representative of the Azerbaijani Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) has stated that in the country journalists are persecuted even for criticizing local authorities.

Saveliev family has gas supply disconnected
Gas workers have removed the gate, penetrated into the yard and disconnected the cottage in the village for Olympic settlers, which is occupied, since February 2015, by the Saveliev family, from the gas supply.

CPRF demands to check legality of ban to perpetuate Stalin’s memory
The legality of the law adopted in Ingushetia to ban any perpetuation of Stalin’s memory should be checked the prosecutor's office, Valery Rashkin, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), has stated, the “Echo Moskvy” Radio has reported today.

Kuban farmers accuse law enforcers of disrupting press conference

In Derbent, tenants of dilapidated houses express their distrust to Minister of Construction
On February 22, Abdusamad Gamidov, Prime Minister of Dagestan, met residents of Derbent, who do not want to move out of their dilapidated houses from the city centre to the area of the industrial zone. Authorities refuse to give body of Grozny resident, killed at police station, out to his relatives
The body of Islam Lorsanov, killed on January 25 at a police station in Grozny after he shelled policemen, has not been not given out to his relatives, despite the promises of law enforcers. This was reported by a source close to the killed man's family members. According to the source, after the incident, law enforcers detained two younger brothers of the killed man.

AI states increased pressure on rights defenders and journalists in Chechnya
It is more dangerous now for rights defenders and journalists to deal with problems of Northern Caucasus. The human rights situation has worsened in Chechnya, where in 2016 Zhalaudi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, was convicted on false charges; and in early 2017, new threats were addressed to the "Caucasian Knot", the human rights organization “Amnesty International” (AI) states in its annual report on human rights in the world, which was presented in Moscow.

Scientists argue on new name of South Ossetia
The new name of the republic, proposed by the president – “State of Alania" – has not so many supporters, as believed, said Irina Gagloeva, a lecturer of the South-Ossetian State University (SOSU). It is more logical to rename the republic similar to its northern neighbour – into “South Ossetia-Alania”, said Professor Yuri Gagloity.
