HRC "Memorial" speaks out against prison regime for Boris Stomakhin

On December 26, the court will consider the request of the administration of the penal colony, where Boris Stomakhin is serving his sentence for public justification of the terror acts in Volgograd. The administration requests the prison regime for Boris Stomakhin. Human rights defenders have called on the court to refuse tightening the detention regime for the publicist and claimed ungrounded penalties imposed on him at the penal colony.

Villagers demand to expel family members of suspected militant from Chechnya

On December 21, in the village of Prigorodnoye in the Grozny District of Chechnya, local residents held a gathering. They demanded to evict from their village family members of Zelimkhan Bakharchiev, located in Syria. According to the Chechen law enforcement authorities, the man organized attacks on policemen in Grozny on December 17 and 18.

Prosecutor's Office reports about 170 KBR residents involved in IS

Today, at the hearings held at the Parliament of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) and devoted to issues of combating terrorism and extremism, Arthur Makhov, Deputy Prosecutor of the KBR, has reported that at least 170 residents of Kabardino-Balkaria are involved in activities of the "Islamic State" (IS), banned by court in Russia and recognized as a terrorist organization. Of them, 59 suspects are put on the international wanted list.

Miners claim being threatened when trying to leave Gukovo for Moscow

ECtHR obliges Russia's authorities to pay 76,000 euros on two Georgians' complaints

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has found reasonable nine complaints lodged by citizens of Georgia against their expulsion from Russia in 2006. On two of them, compensations have been awarded totalling to 76,000 euros; the amounts on the remaining seven complaints have not yet been defined.

ECtHR recognizes resident of Azerbaijan victim of torture

The Azerbaijani authorities had failed to properly organize the inquiry into the complaint lodged by Ramil Pirgurban about his torture by the police, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has stated and appointed a compensation of 19,000 euros to the applicant.
