In Saint Petersburg, LGBT activists detained at their action against Ramzan Kadyrov
In Saint Petersburg, policemen detained ten activists who during the May Day procession organized an action against harassment of gays in Chechnya and chanted the slogan "Kadyrov to The Hague!" The UN High Commissioner has demanded to protect the rights of gays in Chechnya.

Rights defenders announce independent investigation into Mekhman Galandarov's death

Grozny residents claim being obliged to participate in May Day rally
The festive rally held in the capital of Chechnya was attended by about 100,000 people instead of the planned number of 20,000 people. This was reported by the City Mayor's Office. Public employees and students got instructions on compulsory participation in the rally, reported residents of Grozny.

On April 24-30, 12 people fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus
During the week from April 24 to April 30, 2017, at least twelve persons suffered in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus: one of them was killed and eleven others were injured. Brother of alleged militant shelled in Ingushetia
Djabrail Cherbizhev, an employee of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) and the elder brother of Mikail Cherbizhev, who is wanted on suspicion of involvement with militants and killing policemen, was shelled in Malgobek, said a source.

Experts: Kadyrov strengthens his influence in Middle East to improve his immunity in Russia

In Rostov-on-Don, action against Putin’s nomination for new term was 150 persons strong
Rostov-on-Don has joined the action "Nadoel!" (Sick and Tired), organized by "The Open Russia" network movement and held today in several cities of the country. The protesters have opposed Vladimir Putin’s nomination for another presidential term and voiced their protest against "the long-term corruption in bodies of state power, embezzlement of the state budget and persecution of civil activists."

Azerbaijani activist who died in SIZO was detained for picket
Mekhman Galandarov, who died in the Baku SIZO (pre-trial prison), was a regular participant of oppositional actions. He was detained in February for his picket at the monument to the father of the incumbent President of Azerbaijan, but then accused for illegal drug dealing and placed in custody.

Political prisoner found dead at Baku SIZO
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learned about the death of the activist Mekhman Galandarov, who had been declared a political prisoner by Azerbaijani rights defenders, from Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the head of the public alliance "Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners".According to Mr Gyulyalyev, Mekhman had committed suicide, although there is still no information about his suicide note.
