ECtHR has communicated complaints of eight Azerbaijani journalists

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has combined the complaints of Zamin Gadji, Afghan Mukhtarly, Khakimeldostu Mekhtiev, Ilgar Nasibov, Ramid Ibragimov, Etimad Budagov, Idrak Abbasov and Taplyg Farkhadoglu into one proceeding, and sent questions to the Azerbaijani government on the unified case.

South Ossetia to close border with Georgia for three days

The border with Georgia will be closed for the period from the evening on August 6 till the morning on August 9. The measure was introduced in connection with "holding memorial events timed to the ninth anniversary of the Georgian aggression." Azerbaijani journalist Elchin Ismayilly faces tougher charges

Russian SC refuses to consider cassation appeal against verdict to Zhalaudi Geriev (+video)

The Supreme Court (SC) of Russia has refused to consider cassation appeals against the verdict to Zhalaudi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, accused of drug trafficking. Defenders intend to continue their struggle at the national level and at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) for recognition of Zhalaudi Geriev as not guilty.

Dagestani residents stop construction works in Samur Forest

Local residents did not allow builders to drill wells in the Samur Forest, activists reported. According to activists, the villagers "have once again warned the workers that they will not let them destroy the forest."

Residents of six Kuban districts claim "return of serfdom"
