Court bans temple erection in "Ak-Gel" Park

Today, the Leninsky Court of Makhachkala has satisfied the claim lodged by townspeople demanding to forbid the construction of the Orthodox cathedral in the park near Lake Ak-Gel.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the lawsuit was being considered since September 9. Arsen Magomedov, the head of the law firm "Magomedov and Partners", who represented the claimants' interests, said that an examination was needed to decide on the legality of land transfer for the construction of the cathedral.

Svetlana Anokhina, a journalist, is among the claimants. In Makhachkala, there are already two Orthodox churches, and because of the small number of parishioners, there is no need to build the third in the park, townspeople suggest.

The examination has proved that the land plot is in the territory of the "Ak-Gel" Park, the "Chernovik" weekly writes.

The advocates, who represented the interests of the Makhachkala Diocese, will appeal against the judgement, the RIA "Derbent" reports.

Let us remind you that on August 18, Makhachkala hosted an action in support of the construction of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, organized by the Centre of Russian Language and Culture in Dagestan. The participants thanked the authorities for the decision to build the cathedral.
