Human rights activists ask Spain not to deport Ingush refugee Gasaev to Russia

Human rights activists ask Spain "not to deprive Gasaev of the last shelter." This is the topic of the joint statement of human rights organizations "ChCNS", "MAShR" and the Committee for Forced Migrants' Matters on the case of Murad Gasaev.

On March 24, it became known about the decision of the Spanish court to extradite Murad Gasaev, born in 1974, to Russia on charges of law enforcement bodies of the Russian Federation of participating in attack undertaken in summer of 2004 by illegal armed formations on law enforcement bodies of Ingushetia.

Gasaev can be deported to Russia already in two weeks after approval of the court verdict by a special commission of the country's government. They say at the Prosecutor's Office of Ingushetia: "It's a mere formality, and we have no doubts that our inquiry will be satisfied."

Human rights activists think that Murad Gasaev was "slandered by Idris Matiev, like many other young guys, of whom many are already dead." In this connection, the signatories to the statement remind Khasbulat Amirkhanov and Adam Gorchkhanov. The text of the statement of human rights activists can be found in the website "Ingushetia.Ru".

A picket will be held today in Frankfurt am Main with a demand addressed to Spanish authorities not to deport Murad Gasaev, a refugee from Ingushetia, suspected by Russian law enforcement bodies of involvement in operations of the armed underground in Northern Caucasus. This was reported to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Magomed Mutsolgov, leader of the Ingushetia-based Human Rights Organization "MaShR".
