Three IS* supporters sentenced for preparing a terror act in Cherkessk

In Karachay-Cherkessia, a court found three persons guilty of preparing a terror act and participating in the activities of the “Islamic State” (IS)*. The defendants were sentenced to 18.5 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in April 2022, the FSB reported about the detention in Karachay-Cherkessia of three persons suspected of connections with the IS* and preparation of a terror act on the territory of the republic. During the search, law enforcers found components of an explosive device, new SIM cards, and a map depicting the location of buildings in Cherkessk.

According to the case materials, the defendants “shared terrorist ideology” and established contacts with militants in Syria via Telegram. Then, being guided by the instructions from militants, the accused arrived in Cherkessk, where they rented an apartment and chose one of the administrative buildings as the target of attack. The defendants then purchased materials to make an explosive device and were detained, the TASS reported with reference to the FSB press service.

Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” has reported that that in April, the court sentenced residents of Stavropol Ansar Guseinov, Abdula and Miyasat Irkkuev, as well as Timur Bukharov, to long terms of imprisonment, finding them guilty in the case on preparing a terror act under the instructions they were receiving from the “Islamic State”*.

*On December 29, 2014, the Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation recognized the organization “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” (ISIL or IS) as a terrorist international organization and banned its activities in Russia.
