"Lyzhnya Rossii" takes its start in Volgograd Region

Over 200,000 enthusiasts will take part in the open All-Russian mass cross-country ski race "Lyzhnya Rossii" (Russia's Ski Track) to be held on February 15 in the Volgograd Region.

"This race has long been popular in our country. It is held every year since 1982 and traditionally becomes a bright winter holiday. It is expected that in total "Lyzhnya Rossii-2009" will attract 250,000 ski amateurs. The race will be hosted by 69 cities of the Russian Federation," the press service of the administration of the Volgograd Region has reported.

"Lyzhnya Rossii" is open to every amateur, who comes with his own skis. Several race distances will be held. The length of the VIP-race (usually attended by managers of enterprises and entities, and officials from bodies of state power) is 2014 metres. Young men and girls born in 1991 and later will compete on the track of 5 kilometres, while older participants' distance will make 10 kilometres.
