Eighty-nine criminal cases in relation to 104 participants of the events on March 1 in Yerevan have been already sent to courts; this is the result of the six-month-long investigation. Now, seven persons are in pre-trial custody. This was reported by Agvan Ovsepyan, General Public Prosecutor of Armenia, during his meeting with Silva Zege, special representative of Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

The Republic's Public Prosecutor has stressed inadmissibility of politically-motivated prosecutions. At the same time, according to Agvan Ovsepyan, no person engaged in politics can be exempted from responsibility in case of committing a criminal offence.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the issues of fulfilling by Armenia of Resolutions Nos. 1609 and 1620 of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and the work of the new group set up for fact-finding on events of March 1. According to the General Public Prosecutor, his office is first of all interested in the work of this group. "We'll be grateful if the group opens any new facts, it will contribute to disclosing the murder of 10 and injuring of over 250 persons," said Agvan Ovsepyan.
