Russia's MFA: NATO encourages Georgia to new adventures

By deepening cooperation with Georgia, NATO encourages Tbilisi to new adventures, runs the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Russian Federation made in the context of the visit of the delegation of the North Atlantic Alliance to Georgia.

We remind you that at the session of the NATO Council, which was over on September 16 in Tbilisi, Secretary General of the Alliance Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and Prime Minister of Georgia Lado Gurgenidze signed a document on setting up the Georgia-NATO Commission. However, the date of Georgia's accession to NATO was not announced.

"In the present conditions, we find the holding by NATO of the travel session in Tbilisi to be untimely and against the interests of stabilization of the situation in the region. The decisions passed on the outcomes thereof have confirmed that NATO still has reflexes of the 'cold war' by the principle 'friend or foe'," the RIA "Novosti" quotes the Russian MFA's statement.

As to the initiative of the West to conduct an international investigation of the conflict in the Caucasus, Dmitri Rogozin, Russia's official representative in NATO, said that "we're not against." "However, let's start with the provision that Abkhazians and South-Ossetians should appear in New York and present objective information on what had happened in the region. Secondly, they should appear here in Brussels and present their objective picture here too. If we don't get consent now that representatives of Abkhazia and South Ossetia should appear here, then what the reason is talking about commission and its objectivity," runs the website of the Russian permanent representative office in NATO.

Besides, today Mr Rogozin has stated that for the USA Georgia is an ideal foothold for invasion into Iran. As he said, the Russian party possesses information that the currently restored military infrastructure of Georgia can be used for the logistical support of US' invasion into Iran, and the States are running "real military preparations in the territory of Georgia."
