The number of non-combat casualties in the Armenian army has increased.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia reported the initiation of a criminal case in connection with the death of a contract soldier.

According to the Investigative Committee of Armenia, the agency has opened a criminal case into the death of a contract soldier.

A preliminary investigation is currently underway, examinations have been ordered, and the necessary investigative and other actions are being carried out, Kima Avdalyan, press secretary of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, reported on her Facebook page* on June 26.

She clarified that the contract soldier's death was registered on June 26. Avdalyan cited his initials, R.K., without providing his full name or revealing any other details of the incident.

"Caucasian Knot" also wrote that human rights activists had previously called on the Armenian authorities Pay more attention to crime and suicide prevention in the army. They noted that the rate of non-combat casualties among Armenian servicemen has reached 90%.

The increase in non-combat casualties among the military has previously repeatedly raised questions for the Armenian authorities. Back in November 2023, the parents of fallen soldiers noted that the authorities and the ombudsman should address the issue of peacetime military deaths.
