Two Iranian drone crashes recorded in Azerbaijan

An Iranian drone crashed inside the airport near Nakhchivan, according to the Azerbaijani news agency APA. Several other drones crashed in other locations.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry confirmed this information. The ministry clarified that one drone crashed inside the airport terminal, and the other crashed near a school in the village of Shekerabad. The airport building was damaged, and two people were injured. "We demand that the Islamic Republic of Iran promptly clarify this incident, provide an explanation, and take the necessary urgent measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Azerbaijani side reserves the right to take appropriate retaliatory measures," the statement read.

A protest will be lodged with the Iranian side and a corresponding note will be delivered, the ministry added. Iran's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilu, has already been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Nakhchivan International Airport is located approximately 10 km (from the border with Iran, Reuters reports).

In response to the attack by Iran, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense stated that "attacks will not go unanswered."

"On March 5, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, using unmanned aerial vehicles, carried out attacks on Nakhchivan International Airport and other civilian infrastructure from Iranian territory. The technical parameters of the unmanned aerial vehicles and the details of these attacks are being studied," the military department said in a statement translated into Russian by a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan is preparing "the necessary response measures to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty" of the country, as well as to ensure the safety of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and these attacks will not go unanswered.
