Residents of Sunzha have forced officials to close down the landfill.

The Sunzha administration and the Ingushetia Public Utilities Center responded to complaints from Sunzha residents, who reminded authorities of their unfulfilled promise to eliminate the landfill.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on January 22, a Sunzha resident recorded a video in which he complained about the illegal dump. Sunzha authorities promised to eliminate the illegal dump near new buildings on Engels Street, but failed to do so, local residents stated.

Deputy Mayor of Sunzha Khalid Bekov announced the start of work to eliminate the landfill, which local residents complained about, on the city administration's Telegram channel. The deputy mayor stated that the dump would be eliminated "within a few days."

"We've actively deployed equipment here, and cleanup is underway. Work was hampered last week due to adverse weather conditions," he said.

The Center for Control and Resource Management added that "the problem is not considered closed until it is fully and effectively resolved."

"The administration reported that the work will be completed within a few days. A specialized landfill has been designated for waste removal and disposal. Dumping waste in unauthorized locations is a violation of the law, and violators will be subject to fines," the department reported.

In Ingushetia, the issue of municipal solid waste (MSW) and landfill removal has become a pressing issue in recent years. In August 2025, a tender to select a regional MSW removal operator in the Republic of Ingushetia failed due to a lack of applications. This was reported by Denis Butsaev, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, as reported by the Telegram channel.

At the end of August 2025, Murad Vyshegurov, Minister of Property and Land Relations of Ingushetia, and the Clean World organization were fined for illegally dumping waste at a closed landfill, RBC reported, citing the Karabulak prosecutor's office.
