Krasnodar residents asked Putin to intervene in the embankment development situation
Residents of Krasnodar's Yubileyny microdistrict, protesting against embankment development, recorded a video message to Vladimir Putin. According to City Duma deputy Alexander Safronov, over a thousand people participated in the protest.
As reported by the " Caucasian Knot ," on November 23, Krasnodar residents called on Mayor Yevgeny Naumov to attend a meeting with residents of the Yubileyny microdistrict, who oppose development on the embankment. For three days, city officials failed to respond to the video message. Before the direct line with the governor, Yubileyny residents recorded a video message reminding them that a third church in the Yubileyny microdistrict of Krasnodar is planned to be built in a recreation area for local residents. During the direct line, Kuban Governor Kondratyev announced that the request to build the church had been made by members of the SVO .
Despite numerous protests from Yubileyny residents, Krasnodar authorities rejected all objections to the development of Rozhdestvenskaya Embankment, but took into account the position of those who support the construction of a third church in the neighborhood. Residents are confident that only the attention of federal authorities will prevent the development of the green recreation area. Together with representatives of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, they began collecting signatures demanding the resignation of Mayor Yevgeny Naumov. By November 25, activists had collected over 1,000 signatures demanding the mayor's resignation.
Krasnodar City Duma Deputy Alexander Safronov reported on his Telegram channel "Krasny Temnik" on December 14 that more than a thousand people participated in the recording of a video message to Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the development of the embankment in the Yubileiny microdistrict.
He reminded residents that they are not protesting the church; they want development along the embankment. He then published a 49-second video in which Ivan Dubrovin, a resident of the neighborhood, read an appeal to the president.
"Vladimir Vladimirovich, we ask you to restore the status of public green space to all land along the 80th Anniversary Alley of the Krasnodar Territory. This includes the two and a half hectares already designated for religious use in the new general plan, as well as the land they are planning to seize for the new church project," he read out, adding a request to overturn the decisions that violate urban planning regulations.
"We are not against faith, we are for the law. We are against arbitrary rule. You said: a church should unite, not divide. Help preserve our alley for the sake of our children and grandchildren. The authorities don't listen to us; we are forced to shout: 'Yubileiny is against development,'" he concluded, and the rest of the protesters took up the slogan.
As a reminder, in September 2024, activists in the Yubileiny microdistrict collected signatures for a petition to the governor against the development of Rozhdestvenskaya Embankment. More than 3,000 signatures were collected. Activist Vitaly Cherkasov and City Duma deputy Alexander Safronov were detained while collecting signatures and fined by the court.
Residents of the neighborhood actively protested against the embankment development, arguing that it was the only major recreation area in the neighborhood. However, in November 2024, city council members adopted a new general plan despite their protests.
Back in December 2021, activists protested the construction of a new church on the embankment in Krasnodar, and residents of the Yubileiny neighborhood also protested. Embankment defenders believe it is necessary to build educational and leisure facilities for children in the neighborhood. In January 2022, activist Yana Antonova held a solo picket against the transfer of land on the embankment to the Russian Orthodox Church for the construction of a church.
