he number of fighters from southern Russia killed in Ukraine has reached 8,250
At least 4,051 soldiers from the North Caucasus Federal District and 4,199 from the Southern Federal District have been officially recognized as killed in the military operation in Ukraine.
As the " Caucasian Knot " reported , by December 12, at least 8,206 soldiers from southern Russia were officially recognized as killed in the military operation: 4,043 from the North Caucasus Federal District and 4,163 from the Southern Federal District.
The "Caucasian Knot" maintains a list of names of natives of the North Caucasus and Southern Federal Districts killed in the military operation. The list is compiled in accordance with current laws and based on information provided by officials—from governors to village heads, as well as representatives of law enforcement agencies.
According to the "Caucasian Knot," by December 14, government and security officials had officially acknowledged that at least 8,250 fighters from southern Russia had been killed in the military operation: 4,051 from the North Caucasus Federal District and 4,199 from the Southern Federal District.
Dagestan continues to account for the largest number of fatalities – 1,722. The deaths of 857 fighters from Stavropol Krai, 529 from North Ossetia, and 337 from Kabardino-Balkaria have also been confirmed. 253 - from Chechnya, 177 from Ingushetia and 176 from Karachay-Cherkessia.
Among the Southern Federal District regions, the Volgograd Region has the highest number of fatalities (1,573). Also confirmed dead are 821 fighters from the Rostov Region, 810 from the Krasnodar Krai, 661 from the Astrakhan Region, 202 from Kalmykia, and 132 from Adygea.
The actual losses among North Caucasus security forces may be significantly higher than officially acknowledged. This situation is common to all regions of the North Caucasus Federal District, but is particularly acute in Chechnya. In February 2023, Ramzan Kadyrov called on regional leaders not to disclose the number of those killed . "I don't understand when regional leaders trumpet the number of those killed in the North Caucasus Military District. My question is: why? There's no need to manipulate the topic of our heroes, writing that this many died in this region, and that many in another," he said.
As a reminder, the first official to report the death of a Russian soldier in the SVO zone was Dagestan's head, Sergei Melikov . On February 26, 2022, he announced that officer Nurmagomed Gadzimagomedov had been killed in Ukraine.
State awards, memorial plaques, and appearances on Channel One do not guarantee state support for the families of those killed, according to the "Caucasian Knot" article " Three Comrades Served: How the Authorities Are Depriving the Families of Killed Volunteers of Benefits ," which describes the stories of slain soldiers, including those from the Krasnodar Territory.
