A rally outside the Georgian Ministry of Health preceded a protest march in Tbilisi
On the 376th day of continuous protests, activists in Tbilisi marched outside the Georgian Ministry of Health, demanding the identification of the chemicals used to disperse demonstrators in 2024.
As reported by the " Caucasian Knot ," participants in daily protests outside the Georgian parliament since December 1 have been demanding a full investigation into the use of chemical agents to disperse protests in November and December 2024. On December 5, they demanded the names of the chemicals used to disperse the protesters be made public. The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs never purchased "kamit"; the substance purchased and used at the protests was a substance called "chlorobenzylidine malononitrile," the State Security Service of Georgia stated on December 6. The service has closed its investigation into abuses of power by security forces but continued its investigation into hostile actions against the country in connection with the BBC report.
For the second year, daily protests have been taking place in Georgia demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of all those detained for participating in the demonstrations. Demonstrators blocked traffic on Rustaveli Avenue for 343 consecutive days. Beginning on November 6 , security forces prevented activists from blocking traffic, forming a human wall of police officers along the roadway, and detaining protesters for attempting to enter the road. From then until November 26, supporters of European integration held daily marches through central Tbilisi, taking various routes.
Supporters of Georgia's European integration gathered this evening on Rustaveli Avenue in front of the parliament building for a protest with unchanged demands. The protesters brought national and EU flags, as well as posters with slogans, Interpressnews reports.
Protesters held another protest march, moving from the parliament building toward the Rustaveli metro station, Tbilisi_life reports.
Before the rally outside parliament, activists held signs outside the Ministry of Health building, demanding the identification of the specific chemicals used by security forces to disperse protesters in late 2024. The protest was held under the slogan "The Regime is Killing Us," Publika reported.
In November and December 2024, security forces violently dispersed protests, using tear gas and water cannons. Over a thousand people were subjected to administrative prosecution during the protests. The "Caucasian Knot" has prepared a report, " Key Points on the Persecution of Protest Participants in Georgia ."
