Man convicted of Nemtsov’s murder released

Temirlan Eskerkhanov, sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment in a penal colony for the murder of politician Boris Nemtsov, has signed a one-year contract with the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) and entered an assault unit, a source reports. According to the source’s information, the rest of those convicted in the case on the murder of politician Boris Nemtsov remain in prison.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in 2023, politician Ilya Yashin* wrote that the Chechen natives sentenced to imprisonment in the criminal case on the murder of Boris Nemtsov managed to sign contracts with the “Wagner” PMC (Private Military Company), after which they were pardoned and returned to their homeland. Ilya Yashin* noted that he got the above information from the convicted Chechen natives.

Boris Nemtsov was shot and killed in Moscow on February 27, 2015. On July 13, 2017, the court found natives of Chechnya Zaur Dadaev, Anzor Gubashev, Shadid Gubashev, Tamerlan Eskerkhanov (also referred to as Temerlan, Temirlan, Tamirlan, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”), and Khamzat Bakhaev guilty of murder and sentenced them to terms of imprisonment ranging from 11 to 20 years.

Temirlan Eskerkhanov was released from a penal colony and signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD), after which he went to carry out tasks in the special military operation (SMO) zone, the TASS reports.

“He has left for an assault unit, and now he is carrying out combat missions in the SMO zone,” a source reported.

According to the source’s information, the rest of those convicted in the case on the murder of politician Boris Nemtsov have not expressed a desire to sign a contract to participate in the special military operation.
