Video of woman being beaten in Chechnya outrages Telegram users

The beating of a woman by her husband in a shop in the locality of Oiskhara requires an investigation, human rights defenders claim. Telegram users condemned the behaviour of the Chechen resident.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in January, participants of the conference “New Trends in the Situation of Domestic Violence in Northern Caucasus” noted that the situation with the protection of women’s rights in the republics of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) was deteriorating. It is difficult to track such crimes, as the local authorities are not interested in making them public, even going so far as to remove information from court’s websites, the activists note.

“A husband brought his wife to work every morning, and there were no problems. One day he drank alcohol and burst into a shop to make a scandal. Their quarrel was caught on camera: the man was shouting and forcing his wife to leave with him. Aishat was resisting and asking her husband to calm down. The woman managed to call her husband’s brother, who came to help. But the woman still got several blows from her husband,” the “Mash Gor” Telegram channel reported.

The video was also posted by the “Marem” human rights group in its Telegram channel. “Our subscriber who sent us the recording fears that the tyrant will not be punished,” the human rights defenders noted under the video.

In their comments, Telegram users expressed their indignation by the behaviour of the man in the video. “It’s scary to imagine what’s going on at home if he behaves like that in a public place,” wrote user Rita.

“We should repost the video. So that everyone knows the monster. Maybe at least someone will set his mind straight,” urged user Kabashkal. “Nobody will set him straight. Unfortunately, this is a usual phenomenon there,” responded user iSi.

“Unfortunately, this is a usual phenomenon in the Chechen Republic, and nobody will do anything to the man. Relatives can take their daughter away from him, he’ll get a divorce, and that’s the maximum they can do,” noted user Ks.
