Orlov's* advocate and wife tell about his custody conditions and health status at SIZO

Oleg Orlov*, a human rights defender, has been placed under quarantine at the "Kapotnya" Moscow SIZO (pre-trial prison), where the custody conditions there can be treated as satisfactory, Oleg's wife and advocate have informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the court sentenced Oleg Orlov* to 2.5 years of freedom deprivation, finding him guilty of discrediting the Russian Army.

The sentencing of Orlov*, a co-chairman of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial"**, for his statements is contrary to the Constitution, human rights defenders have pointed out. He himself has treated his verdict as confirmation of Russia's return to totalitarianism.

According to Abusupyan Gaitaev, an advocate, the custody conditions in the "Kapotnya" SIZO are standard for Moscow detention centre; there is no overcrowding there.

Tatiana Kasatkina, Oleg Orlov's* wife, has noted that it is not yet clear whether her husband will stay at the Moscow SIZO until the appeal is decided on.

His moral state, in her opinion, remains good.

"It's not surprising; he was prepared (for arrest) ... He is healthy and cheerful; he has no complaints, he got acquainted with everyone in his cell ... He said that everything is fine and there is nothing that needs to be fought against," Tatiana Kasatkina has concluded.

**On December 29, 2021, by the decision of the Moscow City Court, the Russian legal entities of the "International Memorial" and the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" were liquidated. Activists of the organizations have reported that both organizations will continue their work without forming legal entities.
