In Kuban, beating of watchman results in three criminal cases against law enforcers

Investigators instituted a criminal case on falsification of a police protocol against district police inspector Yevgeny Samonov, accused of beating Kuban resident Fyodor Valko and forgery. Ivan Tatsenko, the second defendant in the case on beating, is charged only with abuse of power. Fyodor Valko claims that four months after he had been beaten, the consequences of the beating interfere with his ability to work.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Fyodor Valko, a watchman from the Prikubansky farm yard, was hospitalized in August after being detained by law enforcers on suspicion of stealing a conveyor belt from a factory, beaten, and accused of failure to obey lawful requests of the policemen. Two law enforcers were arrested in a case on abuse of power.

According to the watchman’s complaint, the law enforcers beat him until he lost consciousness, including hitting him with a chair.

Fyodor Valko has still not fully recovered his health. According to his claim, the policemen who beat him made no attempt to reconcile or somehow make amends.

Ilya Platonov, a lawyer of the Krasnodar branch of the “Team Against Torture” (TaT)*, reported that a third criminal case has been instituted against district police inspector Yevgeny Samonov, one of the defendants in the case on beating of Fyodor Valko, for falsifying the police protocol.

At the same time, the court, which was considering the issue of extending the pre-trial restriction measure, left Yevgeny Samonov in custody and transferred Ivan Tatsenko, the second defendant in the case on beating, to house arrest.

*The “Team against Torture” (TaT, formerly the “Committee against Torture” – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
