Ingush resident Leyla Chemurzieva’s case to be considered by court

In Magas, a court began considering a case against Leyla Chemurzieva, who was accused of possessing an explosive device. The testimony which investigators insisted on was given by Leyla Chemurzieva after torture and threats, the Human Rights Protection Centre “Memorial” reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on April 7, 2022, relatives of Leyla Chemurzieva, a resident of Nazran, reported that law enforcers in masks broke into her house and took her away. An improvised explosive device (IED) was planted to Leyla Chemurzieva, her sister claimed.

Lyudmila Ortskhanova, a mother of Leyla Chemurzieva, said that during the search, the law enforcers frightened children, and after their visit, 100,000 roubles and gold jewellery disappeared. The mother of Leyla Chemurzieva filed a complaint to the prosecutor’s office, but prosecutors found no violations by the law enforcers.

On January 11, the court began considering the case against 38-year-old Leyla Chemurzieva, the Human Rights Protection Centre “Memorial” reported on its Telegram channel. Earlier, the woman signed the testimony, which the law enforcers insisted on.

“Several months later, she told her advocate ... that she gave the testimony under pressure from the law enforcers unknown to her ... They ... tortured her and threatened with reprisals against the people close to her,” the human rights defenders reported.

Let us remind you that Leyla Chemurzieva, a widow of a killed militant, was wounded during a special operation conducted in a market in Nazran on October 31, 2015. After that, the woman was accused of having links with Beslan Makhauri, the leader of the militants in the Sunzha District, and Ilyas Vedzizhev, the leader of the “Nazran” militant grouping, who were killed in the mentioned special operation.
