Rights defenders worry about fate of Ibragim Musaev, missing resident of Chechnya

The disappearance of Ibragim Musaev, a resident of the village of Sernovodsky, whom law enforcers were interested in, indicates a real danger for him, human rights defenders believe, suggesting that a criminal case can be fabricated against Musaev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ibragim Musaev, 41, an asylum seeker in Greece, disappeared on June 25, 2021, on his way home from the Magas Airport. According to his relatives, he was taken to a police station. On August 2, Musaev returned to the village, but two days later disappeared again.

Svetlana Gannushkina, the chair of the "Civil Assistance" Committee*, treats Musaev's re-arrest as very dangerous.

Earlier, a member of Musaev's family said that in 2016 Musaev was kept at a police station for about a year. "His sister was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of killing her child, and Ibrahim was suspected of being involved in this," said the relative, adding that after Ibragim was released, he left for Greece.

Ruslan Kutaev, President of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, has also noted that the man's second disappearacne indicates a real danger for him.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported about the problems with law enforcers of other natives of Chechnya who lived in Europe. For example, the 32-year-old Nurmagomed Mamuev, who was deported from Germany in March this year, spent about a month in custody with Chechen law enforcers. He was released after the appeal of human rights defenders to the prosecutor's office.
