Armenian MoD discloses details of battles at Azerbaijani border

Azerbaijani military units occupied an Armenian military post, but were then driven out of there, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Armenia reported. Military operations will not go beyond the positional warfare, expert Robert Nazaryan and political analyst Armen Vardanyan suggest.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that tonight, according to the Armenian MoD, the Azerbaijani armed forces launched an offensive in the border section from Sotk to the village of Verin Shorzha. Armenia reported about three killed and two wounded soldiers, while Azerbaijan – about two wounded soldiers. The parties, mediated by Russia, agreed on a ceasefire, but Baku has already accused Yerevan of violating the ceasefire regime.

Azerbaijan creates tension to force Armenia to sign an agreement on border delimitation, political analyst Armen Vardanyan and military expert Robert Nazaryan suggest.

According to Robert Nazaryan, an expert at the military-analytical portal “Razm.info”, battles will not go beyond the positional warfare. “Azerbaijan is putting pressure on Armenia to force it to sign an agreement on delimitation and demarcation of borders,” Robert Nazaryan claimed.

Political analyst Armen Vardanyan believes that large-scale battles are out of the question, and Azerbaijan will continue to adhere to the tactics of border escalation.

It is really not beneficial for Armenia to conclude an agreement on borders, Armen Vardanyan adds. Meanwhile, according to him, not only Azerbaijan but also Russia exerts pressure on Armenia.
