Azerbaijan reports capture of an Armenian saboteur at border

An Armenian reconnaissance and sabotage group tried to mine the territory of Azerbaijan, and one of the soldiers was detained, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan reported. Their Armenian counterpart claims that captured contract soldier Arthur Kartanyan simply got lost.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the border conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan escalated in mid-May. Yerevan stated that Azerbaijani militaries had penetrated the territory of the Syunik and Gegarkunik Regions of Armenia. The Azerbaijani MoD announced the detention in the Lachin direction of Arthur Kartanyan, a member of the reconnaissance and sabotage group of the Armenian armed forces. “The rest of the group retreated and left the territory of Azerbaijan,” the MoD of Azerbaijan reported.
