Chechen law enforcers release Nurmagomed Mamuev

The police brought Nurmagomed Mamuev, who had been held in custody since March 26, after his deportation from Germany, to the village of Shalazhi, the Human Rights Centre *(HRC) “Memorial”* reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 24, Nurmagomed Mamuev, a native of Chechnya, was detained in Berlin. In Moscow, he was handed over to law enforcers from Chechnya, and after that he disappeared.

On April 19, law enforcers from the Urus-Martan police department brought home 32-year-old Nurmagomed Mamuev. With the help of Nurmagomed Mamuev’s fellow villagers, the HRC “Memorial”* identified the state registration plates of the car in which the man was taken away.

It should be noted that Nurmagomed Mamuev is not the first resident of Chechnya who was detained after his deportation from an EU country. On April 9, Magomed Gadaev was deported to Russia from France. In 2010, he left Russia after his kidnapping in Chechnya. Magomed Gadaev claimed that his life was in danger, but on April 11, the police handed him over to law enforcers, who took him to Chechnya in connection with a criminal case on possession of weapons. A video was posted on Instagram, in which Magomed Gadaev claimed that he was not tortured. Social media users considered the video to be staged, and human rights defenders noted that the video only increased fears for Magomed Gadaev’s life.
