After start of his hunger strike, Salaev, PFPA activist, transferred to another colony

Alizamin Salaev, a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), who had complained about beatings in the colony and went on a hunger strike, was transferred, after appealing to the Ombudsperson and the Penitentiary Service, to another colony located in a suburb of Baku. In the new place, the oppositionist has no complaints of harassment, said Salaev's son.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Alizamin Salaev, a PFPA member, who is serving his prison term on charges of libel and insult after spreading a video criticizing a policeman in social networks, reported about beatings in the colony after he went on a hunger strike in solidarity with Tofig Yagublu.

A video on the YouTube channel "Made in Azerbaijan" shows a dispute of Salaev with a man named the head of the police department. Salaev accused him of not marrying the girl after having dishonoured her, which angered the residents of the city of Salyan. The man said that Salaev had no right to accuse him, since he was not a relative of the girl.

Salaev's transfer to another colony is probably connected with the reaction of the Penitentiary Service to his hunger strike against the background of the great resonance of Yagublu's action, Namizad Safarov, the coordinator of the Centre against Torture and Repressions, believe.

Let us remind you that Salaev was detained on January 13, 2020. On January 22, Ali Kerimli, the PFPA leader, and Salaev's son stated that after detention, Alizamin Salaev was tortured.

Gezyal Bairamly, the PFPA Deputy Chair, has called the 46-year-old Alizamin Salaev one of the most active party members in the country. "He sharply criticized corruption, bureaucratic arbitrariness and violations of citizens' rights. In January 2019, he organized a rally in defence of the blogger, Mekhman Guseinov, for which he was arrested," Ms Bairamly has noted.

In 2019, Salaev was arrested four times.
