400 people taken to Azerbaijan from tent camp near Kullar

The Azerbaijani authorities have increased the passage to the country for their citizens returning from Russia across the land border. 400 citizens of Azerbaijan were sent home from the tent camp organized in the Dagestani village of Kullar.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that residents of a temporary accommodation centre (TAC) arranged near the village of Kullar are sent home in groups every week. By August 10, the number of people staying at the tent camp had grown up to 700.

"Our appeals were heard; and this time Azerbaijani authorities removed more citizens from Kullar than usual. Usually, 250-260 people were taken out per week. This time 400 people left the camp. Moreover, the list was drawn up with account of the waiting order. However, 400 people are still not enough," said Afig Allakhverdiev, a deputy chairman of the National Cultural Autonomy of Azerbaijanis in the Moscow Region.

According to his story, about 800 people remain in Kullar. "And the influx will increase. Seasonal works are now being completed in Russia; and many Azerbaijani citizens will return home. The border passage restrictions should be lifted. Otherwise, tensions in the Kullar camp will increase, and the unrest that occurred on June 15 may repeat," Mr Allakhverdiev has noted, adding, however, now it is impossible to give the exact number of residents of the official temporary accommodation centre (TAC), and the spontaneous camp, since the flow of arrivals is constantly increasing.
