Baku townspeople complain about quarantine difficulties

Due to the quarantine introduced in major cities of Azerbaijan, stores are facing foodstuff shortage; patients find it difficult to get to hospitals; while policemen conduct "prophylactic conversations" with restriction violators, Baku residents have told.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Azerbaijani authorities had imposed strict quarantine measures for the weekend in Baku and other large cities. On June 6-8, residents are prohibited from leaving home.

Some residents have complained that they encountered difficulties due to the quarantine. "My wife and I suffer from a kidney disease, and have to visit hospital in Baku three times a week ... Because of the ban, we couldn't go to the hospital, we had to walk there," Vyusal Mamedov said.

Other residents complained that they could not go to the store and buy bread. There was a shortage of foodstuffs at retail outlets, townspeople have reported.

Residents can leave home in two cases: if there is a threat to their life and health, and to participate in the funeral of close relatives, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan has explained.

The total number of those infected in the country has reached 7239 people; 84 people have died.
