Makhachkala townspeople show empathy for journalist Gadjiev

Residents of Makhachkala asked questions about the health condition of journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev and the consideration date of the appeal, Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" outlet, who has held a picket in support of his colleague, has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Gadjiev's colleagues treat his criminal case as political persecution and regularly hold solo pickets in his support.

Solo pickets have been held regularly since June 2019, when Gadjiev was detained. They were disrupted only because of provocations and arrests of picketers. According to his colleagues, Gadjiev is suffering because the above outlet had voiced "inconvenient questions" to authorities and law enforcers.

The picket in Makhachkala in support of Gadjiev passed calmly and, due to the day off, aroused townspeople's interest, Mr Magomedov has stated.

"Everything went very well ... About 10 people came up, asked questions and expressed words of support," he has added.

According to his story, Idris Yusupov*, a journalist, who had earlier taken part in pickets, is temporarily refraining from them because of his status of a foreign agent.

Let us remind you that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the "Chernovik", Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" Charitable Fund, and Kemal Tambiev, an entrepreneur, have been accused of financing terrorism. On September 12, 2023, the court sentenced Gadjiev to 17 years, Rizvanov to 18 years, and Tambiev to 17.5 years of freedom deprivation.

Gadjiev is kept at the SIZO (pre-trial prison). A complaint against the verdict was filed back in September 2023, but no hearing has yet been scheduled, although the law provides for two months for this, one of Gadjiev's advocates said on March 5.
