Orientalists note demonstrative nature of shipment foodstuffs from Chechnya to UAE

Chechen authorities have observed the Arab tradition of reciprocal gifts by sending foodstuffs to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in exchange for the help with protective means and coronavirus tests. However, UAE residents, unlike those of Chechnya, face no foodstuff deficit, Orientalists have noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation had sent 30 tons of meat, fruits and vegetables to the UAE. Social network users have noted that the UAE is one of the richest countries in the Middle East, while there are many people in need in Chechnya.

The gesture of gratitude in the form of sending foodstuffs is in line with the Arab ethics of gift exchange, Dmitry Mikulsky, a historian, believes.

The party that is accepting the gift first demonstrates its status in return, Alexei Malashenko, the director for scientific studies at the "Dialogue of Civilizations" Institute, has explained.

"We make a gift in return and show that we are not beggars," he said, believing, however, that UAE residents hardly need any foodstuffs from Chechnya.

Ruslan Kutaev, a Caucasian expert, is convinced that the foodstuffs sent to the UAE were more necessary for residents of Chechnya.
