Sociologists doubt results of quarantine poll in Chechnya

While commenting on the statement of Ramzan Kadyrov about the unprecedented support of the quarantine measures by residents of Chechnya, Denis Volkov has emphasized that a poll conducted in social networks cannot be considered relevant. The population is loyal to the measures of self-isolation, but 98 percent support is out of the question, experts claim.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 1, the Chechen authorities announced the mitigation of the quarantine restrictions, but the system of permits still stayed in force. Ramzan Kadyrov reported that 98% of residents of the republic supported the measures to combat the coronavirus infection. The leader of Chechnya referred to the results of a poll conducted in social networks on the initiative of the "Grozny" TV Channel.

With any poll, any numbers can drawn, if there is such a goal, says Denis Volkov, a sociologist from the "Levada Centre".

Magomed Daudov, the speaker of the Chechen parliament, threatened to fine and place under two-week quarantine those who entered a public place without a mask on a face. The speaker of the Chechen parliament claimed that not only violators, but also members of their families would be punished. Residents of Chechnya criticized the tough measures.

Sociologist Igor Seleznyov claimed that, according to his observations, although the quarantine measures in Chechnya were tough, they were taken in due time and yielded results.

In turn, sociologist Dmitry Rogozin believes that all polls, including those conducted on social networks, may be relevant.
