Chechen Speaker threatens to put violators to forced quarantine

Magomed Daudov, Speaker of the Chechen Parliament, has announced the need for a medical mask regime and threatened violators and their family members with fines and a two-week-long forced quarantine. Residents of Chechnya have criticized such harsh measures.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 1, the Chechen authorities announced relaxation of restrictions – walking around the house and going in for sports outdoors were allowed, but the mask-wearing regime was maintained.

Instagram users have criticized the mask regime. "On the contrary, in this heat, a mask is accumulates germs," laila_x88 has written.

"You're contradicting yourself! Ramzan said that masks are useless, and there is no need to wear them. Moreover, masks are reasonable in crowded places, not in the street," the user missamali.777 was indignant.

"Why don't officials wear masks? Has Allah given them protection from the virus?" the user o.mr.g.rasta asks.

According to experts, the self-isolation regime has reinforced protest moods in residents of Chechnya.

"People have not ceased fearing; they're just losing their nerves," the blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov believes.
