Kadyrov promises to rename Gikalo into Djamleil-Yurt

The head of Chechnya has visited the dwelling settlement of Gikalo and promised locals to rename it in honour of the head of the village administration, Djamleil Elikhanov, who was killed by militants. The settlement has launched building a new mosque, which will be named after Abdul-Kadyr, Ramzan Kadyrov's great-grandfather.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 26, residents of the Grozny dwelling settlement named after Nikolai Gikalo, a Soviet revolutionary, offered the head of Chechnya to rename it in honour of Djamleil Elikhanov, the head of the local administration, who was killed by militants. Besides, as reported by the "Grozny" ChGTRK (Chechen State TV and Radio Company), they asked to build there "a mosque named after Abdul-Kadyr, son of Ilyas (the great-grandfather of Ramzan Kadyrov)."

The head of Chechnya has visited the settlement of Gikalo and met local residents. A report about the meeting was shown in the January 29 night news programme of the "Grozny" TV channel.

Ramzan Kadyrov expressed his gratitude for the proposal to name the new mosque after his great-grandfather.

Kadyrov was accompanied by the republic's Mufti, Salakh Mezhiev, who drove the first rebar into the ground in the place where the mosque will be built.

Ramzan Kadyrov has announced to the audience that the work on renaming the settlement "has already begun," and the issue will be solved within two weeks.
