Georgian SC Judge accused of falsifying his lawyer's diploma

Shalva Tadumadze, a former Georgian Prosecutor General, appointed a termless Judge of the Supreme Court (SC), has failed to confirm his higher legal education, the coalition "For Independent and Transparent Judiciary" asserts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 12, the MPs approved 14 Judges, including the then General Prosecutor of Georgia Shalva Tadumadze. Earlier, human rights defenders demanded from Tadumadze to confirm the authenticity of his diploma of higher legal education. According to their version, the dates of study in his diploma fail to coincide with the operation time of the university.

"After studying archival materials and analyzing the legislation, it hasn't been confirmed that Tadumadze has the necessary higher education for a SC Judge. A SC Judge should not have at least a master's degree or another equivalent one," says the statement of the coalition "For Independent and Transparent Judiciary" of December 16, which was translated into Russian by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The statement notes, in particular, that when Tadumadze was running for the SC Judge, the legal committee of the Georgian parliament obliged him to provide a documentary confirmation of the validity of his diploma. However, Tadumadze failed to do this.
