Courts extends arrest of Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev

In Makhachkala, a court left journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev in custody until November 13.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the religion department at the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft), has been in custody since June 18. On October 14, residents of Makhachkala held a picket with the demand to release the journalist. The Abdulmumin Gadjiev's supporters explained their participation in the protest action by a sense of justice.

Today, an investigator has again referred to the need for a large volume of investigative actions. He has emphasized that he does not consider more lenient pre-trial restriction measure possible for Abdulmumin Gadjiev.

In turn, Abdulmumin Gadjiev and his defence have complained about the ineffective work of the investigator. They requested the court to pronounce a decision on house arrest.

The journalist pleads not guilty of financing terrorism. Human rights defenders consider his case a threat to all journalists in Russia, and the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" recognized Abdulmumin Gadjiev as a political prisoner.
