Chechen authorities announce a free excursion to region bordering Ingushetia

A free excursion to the Galanchozh District is scheduled for January 26, and any citizen of Chechnya can take part in it, reports the spokesperson for the Ministry of Tourism for Chechnya. The initiative was announced after Ingush activists had voiced a call to abandon the resettlement of Chechen residents to the above territory.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 26, 2018, Ramzan Kadyrov and Yunus-Bek Evkurov signed the agreement securing the border between Chechnya and Ingushetia. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov announced the creation of "conditions for living, leisure, and attraction of tourists" in the territories bordering Ingushetia and announced the Year of the Galanchozh District in the Chechen Republic. Meanwhile, in Ingushetia, the border agreement caused mass protests.

"A trip to the Galanchozh District, restoration of which was started in the autumn 2018, will be organized on January 26. Any resident of Chechnya can take part in the trip," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed today by an official from the administration for the Chechen leader and government.

Organizers of the trip expect that it will be of particular interest for natives of the Galanchozh District. "First of all, we expect that descendants of those people who lived there before the deportation of 1944 will join the trip. This is a great opportunity to decide on the question of returning to their native places. But anyone can go," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was explained by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Tourism for Chechnya.

Meanwhile, it is not precisely known whether the excursion programme will include visits to the territory which used to be a part of Ingushetia.
