Vladimir Putin announces construction of a deepwater port in Kaspiysk

At the fifth Caspian summit in Kazakhstan, Vladimir Putin has announced that the port to be built in the city of Kaspiysk until 2025 will be able to receive ships with a workload of 15,000-25,000 tons.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 12, at the fifth Caspian summit, the presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan signed a convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea. After the signing of the document, the main area of the Caspian Sea will remain in common use, while the sea floor and subsoil will be divided among the countries.

"A new deepwater port of Kaspiysk is to be constructed until 2025," Vladimir Putin announced at the summit. According to the Russian President, the port will be able to receive heavy vessels with a workload of 15,000-25,000 tons, the "Interfax" reported on August 12.

It should also be noted that on April 2, it was announced that the Caspian flotilla would be redeployed from Astrakhan to Kaspiysk. The decision is related to the possibility for military seamen to take part in the fight against terrorism in Northern Caucasus and Syria, believe military observers and political analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".
