Armenia: law enforcer accused of torturing "Sasna Tsrer" member

Armen Kazaryan, the commander of the convoy battalion, has been accused of torturing Gagik Egiazaryan, a member of the "Sasna Tsrer" detachment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 28, 2017, before the session on the case of 14 members of the "Sasna Tsrer", a brawl occurred of the defendants with policemen. According to Ara Papikyan, an advocate, the defendants Araik Khandoyan, Areg Kyuregyan, Smbat Barsegyan, Mkhitar Avetisyan and Gagik Egiazaryan were exposed to torture.

The Armenian Ombudsperson reported that doctors fixed traces of violence on defendants' bodies. According to the police, a "proportionate physical force" was applied to the defendants, while the statements about torture were just a "fantasy."

However, according to investigators, Armen Kazaryan, the commander of the convoy, along with his several subordinates, tortured Gagik Egiazaryan, a figurant in the "Sasna Tsrer" case.

Kazaryan may face from 7 to 12 years of imprisonment, the portal arlis.am points out.
