"Sasna Tsrer" abandons uprising idea

With the change of power in Armenia, the need for an armed uprising has vanished; the "Sasna Tsrer" regiment is ready to cooperate with the new authorities, its members have stated today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after Nikol Pashinyan's advent to power, some of the arrested "Sasna Tsrer" members could get back at large. On May 31, Manvel Atoyan and Khachatur Gichyan, members of the regiment, were released; and a week earlier the court set free Karo Egnukyan, a member of the Constituent Parliament, accused of helping to capture the police building.

The armed detachment "Sasna Tsrer" seized a building of the patrol-and-post service in Yerevan and held it from July 17 till July 30, 2016.

After the overthrow of the regime and the formation of the government of people's trust, the "Sasna Tsrer" considers the page of the national liberation struggle, which had dictated the need for an armed uprising, to be closed, the members of the detachment have stated today.

In its statement posted today on the website of the "Constituent Parliament", the regiment states its readiness to help the new government of Armenia and called on its supporters to do the same. "We should forget our political disagreements and help the new government, until there is a threat of revenge," the statement says.
