New State Minister and heads of power agencies appointed in NKR

After their predecessors resigned, the new State Minister, the head of the Police and the head of the National Security Service (NSS) were appointed by Bako Saakyan, the President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the NKR, on June 6, Kamo Agadjanyan, the head of the Police of Nagorno-Karabakh, and Araik Arutyunyan, the State Minister, had to resign under demand of the participants of the protest rally Stepanakert, the capital of the NKR.

On June 1, during a mass fight in Stepanakert, two local residents were beaten by law enforcers. The incident provoked a mass protest action. On June 4, it was suspended after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan voiced an appeal to let the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh fulfil the promises given to the protesters.

President Saakyan has appointed Grigory Martirosyan to the post of State Minister, dismissing him from the post of the head of the Ministry of Finance and appointing Arthur Arutyunyan in his place. Colonel Igor Grigoryan was appointed as a new head of the Police, the press service of the NKR's President has reported.

The resignation statement was also submitted by Lieutenant-General Arshavir Garamyan, the Director of the NSS. Instead, Colonel Samvel Shakhramanyan was appointed. Colonel Gagik Sarkisyan, an NSS' Deputy Director, has also retired because of his pension age, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The public is positive about Grigory Martirosyan, the new State Minister, said Tigran Grigoryan, a member of the oppositional National Revival Party. "But, if the authorities continue working in the old style, they are doomed to failure," he has added.
