Turkey extradites suspects accused of killing Abdulvakhid Edilgeriev to Russia

On October 22, Turkey extradited to Russia Yuri Anisimov and Alexander Smirnov, accused of killing Abdulvakhid Edilgeriev, an administrator for the website "Kavkaz Centre". According to the Turkish newspaper "Cumhuriyet", both extradited men are suspected of organizing the murders of seven other Chechen political immigrants.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 13, 2016, it became known that 52-year-old Yuri Anisimov and 55-year-old Alexander Smirnov were detained in Turkey on suspicion of espionage and murder of the administrator for the website "Kavkaz Centre".

Abdulvakhid Edilgeriev, a relative of Movladi Udugov, an ideologist of Chechen separatism, was shot and killed in Turkey on November 1, 2015.

After the return of Yuri Anisimov and Alexander Smirnov to Russia, Akhmet Chiygoz and Ilmi Umerov, Ukrainian politicians of Crimean Tatar origin, were transferred to Turkey, newspaper "Cumhuriyet" reported.

Both were accused of military and political espionage, involvement in a deliberate murder, and forgery of official documents.

The arranged exchange was unexpected for the Chechen Diaspora in Turkey; however, the agreed position will be announced after a hearing of the Turkish court in the case against Alexander Smirnov and Yuri Anisimov, said the head of the Chechen public organization in Turkey.
