Two Russians detained on suspicion of killing Edilgeriev

In Turkey, special services have detained two Russian citizens: Yuri Anisimov, 52, and Alexander Smirnov, 55, on suspicion of killing Abdulvakhid Edilgeriev, the administrator of the website "Kavkaz-Centre".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulvakhid Edilgeriev, a relative of one of the ideologists of Chechen separatism Movladi Udugov, was shot dead on November 1, 2015, near his home in Turkey. According to witnesses, there were two attackers.

A joint operation to detain Alexander Smirnov and Yuri Anisimov was conducted by the police and National Intelligence Organization of Turkey. The Russians are suspected of killing Edilgeriev; moreover, at the moment of detention they were engaged in "other intelligence work", the Turkish edition "Hürriyet Daily News" reports today.

According to the Turkish police, the detainees used fake passports and had fake IDs of Interpol employees and a number of photos of Russian officials.

Andrei Podyelyshev, the Russian Consul General in Istanbul, has confirmed the detention of two Russians. According to his story, the court has arrested them for one month.
