Women returned to Chechnya from Syria offered to avoid criminal liability

Seven women, who have returned from Syria to Grozny, will be offered to surrender, thus, avoiding the criminal liability for participating in illegal armed formations (IAFs), the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today 14 children and seven women were brought to Chechnya from the warfare zone in Syria.

Russian authorities are trying to return the children, who had come to Syria and Iraq with their parents, who later, allegedly, joined militants, to their homeland. The authorities of Chechnya are actively involved in these efforts.

The above women, natives of Chechnya, Dagestan and Krasnoyarsk Territory, will be checked at the Grozny Airport; and their voluntary surrender will be documented, an official of the Centre for Combating Extremism of the Chechen MIA has stated.

"Under the law, at a voluntary surrender to law enforcers, a person is released from criminal liability. In this case, the women have voluntarily returned to their homeland and are covered by this provision," the RIA "Novosti" quotes the official as saying.

According to the MIA, two women from Dagestan were on the wanted list under the article of "participation in an IAF", the Radio "Moscow Speaking" reports.
